As a child I sat mesmerized before the TV watching my western heroes deal out justice to the bad guys. I have in my personal collection several large knives from that era, which were later popularized as "Bowie" knives. There is one thing that struck me right off, and that is the quality, or should I say the lack of it, in these ancient relics. I am convinced that the men who relied on their knives for their very survival would have given anything for this beautiful Bowie. The men of the old West often relied heavily on their knives each and every day. Out of respect they would often give their knives a special name. Here is a blade you will love and respect.
The 6" blade is made from beautiful high contrast Damascus steel. The steel has been forged using 5160, 15n20, 52100 and nickel. The Explorer has a precise hollow grind, and a handy thumb rest for safety and handling. Dennis has also added his intricate climbing vine file work to the spine of the blade, as well as a sweeping top grind.
The handle is expertly shaped to fit perfectly into the curves of your hand, becoming a seamless extension of your arm. The wood is stabilized Maple, with Dennis' handmade Mosaic Pins fastening the scales securely to the strong full tang.
This Cook beauty comes in a custom fitted stitched black leather sheath with holster stud. Designed to be worn "western style" tucked inside your belt, riding comfortably and securely out of the way on your horse or ATV. Approximately 10 1/2" overall length.
